NACADA pledges stronger action against alcohol and drug abuse

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse
(NACADA) has reiterated its commitment to combating alcohol and substance abuse
following the President’s New Year address, which underscored the Government’s
resolve to tackle the issue as a critical national priority.
In a statement, NACADA Board Chair Stephen Mairori welcomed the President’s
message, noting that it reaffirmed the Government’s determination to address
alcohol and drug abuse due to its far-reaching impact on public health,
national security, productivity, and social cohesion.
The Authority said its Board fully aligns with this national direction and
remains dedicated to ensuring Kenya becomes a nation free from the harms
associated with substance abuse.
NACADA further stated that it will strengthen
its operational and governance frameworks in line with the President’s
expressed concerns, while enhancing multi-agency collaboration to bolster
prevention, enforcement, and public education efforts.
Through stronger policy measures, coordinated action, and sustained
partnerships across government agencies and stakeholders, the Authority
emphasized its resolve to safeguard the well-being of all Kenyans.
The
Board also expressed appreciation for the President’s leadership and goodwill
in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse, reaffirming its unwavering
commitment to supporting the realisation of a healthier nation.
