Nairobi’s Kileleshwa Ward Member of County Assembly Elias Okumu is set to appear in court to face assault charges after he allegedly assaulted his Kayole South counterpart Elizabeth Manyara.

Mr Okumu is reported to have physically assaulted Manyara on the 23rd of March at City Hall and inflicted serious injuries on her.

The MCA was arrested at a restaurant in the City Thursday night.

Ms Manyara was admitted to Nairobi Hospital after the incident. She alleged that Okumu, who is also the Majority Leader at the Nairobi County Assembly, slapped her several times before pushing her to the wall.

Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome confirmed the MCA’s arrest.

“Yes, we arrested him and he will be charged in court. How can he assault a woman? That is not good a behavior especially from a leader,” said Koome.

Okumu spent the night at Central Police station.
