Nairobi United FC are brimming with confidence ahead of today’s Kenya Premier League fixture against AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium.

The highly anticipated rescheduled match set for 3PM will mark a first-ever top-flight encounter between the two sides.

AFC Leopards will be out to reclaim the top spot they surrendered after a 1-0 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz last Sunday.

Former champions Gor Mahia utilized Ingwe’s slip up to move back to the top of the table with a 4-1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks on Tuesday.

Gor top the charts on 26 points after 13 matches, two points above Homeboyz who have played two more matches while Leopards are third on 24 points after 14 matches.

Nairobi United captain John Otieno expressed optimism during the team’s final training session, acknowledging the challenge posed by a tough opponent with a strong fanbase.

“It’s going to be a big game. AFC Leopards have a massive following, but we have confidence in ourselves. We take it one match at a time, and we’re aiming to secure maximum points,” Otieno said.

He emphasized the importance of both defense and attack working as a unit. “To score, we must defend well, and to defend well, we must attack as a team. That’s how we’ll get the scoreline we want,” he added.

Midfielder Shami Mwinyi also shared his thoughts, highlighting the team’s sharpness and momentum.

“Our strikers have been very sharp, and we hope that continues in the next game. It will be a tough match because they are wounded but still a strong team, and we respect that. Our squad is focused, and everyone is committed to positive results,” he said.

Nairobi United enters the clash on the back of a convincing 3-1 away victory over Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium last Sunday, which extended their unbeaten run in the league to three matches.

The win saw the Naibois move up to ninth in the standings on 19 points, seven adrift of Gor Mahia after 11 matches.

Nairobi United fans may also see fresh faces on the pitch, with new signings John Njuguna, Roy Okal, and Mustapha Kiiza all eligible for selection following successful mid-season transfers.

Wednesday’s fixture promises high intensity, as Nairobi United looks to solidify its title race ambitions and continue its impressive run in their maiden participation in the league.
