Nais Karia ditches UDA, joins opposition DCP for 2027 bid

The defection marks a significant shift in Kajiado's political landscape, with Karia moving away from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) where she had been aligned with the government.

Announcing the decision on Monday, Karia , a nominated MCA, said the move reflects extensive consultations with constituents across the county and represents her quest to better serve Kajiado residents. "I have not changed the people I want to serve; I have changed the political platform through which I believe I can best serve them," she said.

Karia emphasised that her decision followed wide engagement with women, youth, pastoralists, farmers, business owners, and families across Kajiado County. She framed the shift as rooted in responsive leadership rather than electoral opportunism.

"Leadership begins with listening. Any serious leader must remain connected to the people they seek to represent. This decision is broader than an election; it is about where I believe I can most effectively pursue the interests of Kajiado and serve our people better," she stated.

While acknowledging her previous UDA association, Karia stressed that switching parties should not be interpreted as wholesale rejection of her prior positions. She called for political tolerance across party lines.

"Political differences should never turn neighbours, friends and colleagues into enemies. I respect those who may disagree with my decision, just as I ask them to respect my decision to take a different political path," she said.

Karia pledged that joining an opposition party would not prevent her from supporting government initiatives that benefit constituents. "I respect the President and the institutions of Government.

Where Government delivers something that benefits the people of Kajiado, I will support it. Where I believe our people deserve better, I will have the courage to speak up," she said.

Looking toward 2027, Karia said her candidacy will centre on service, accessibility, and commitment to women, youth, and families in the county. She positioned herself as ready to compete for voter confidence on the basis of her track record and dedication to constituent interests.
