A police corporal has died while a female bar owner is fighting for her life following a shooting incident at a local bar in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Wednesday night, January 1.

According to a police report recorded at Kongoni Police Station, the incident was reported by Corporal Bakari Juma, the officer in charge of Kachuma Police Post. Officers who responded to the scene found two people lying in pools of blood outside the pub.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Corporal Collins Kochei, attached to Tangi Tano Police Post under Munanda Police Station in Gilgil Sub-county, allegedly shot Lucy Wanjiru Njoroge, a 34-year-old Kikuyu woman and the owner of the bar.

She sustained gunshot wounds to both breasts and her right thigh.

Both victims were rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital by a good Samaritan. Corporal Kochei was pronounced dead on arrival, while the woman was admitted in serious condition and is currently undergoing treatment.

Senior police officers from Kongoni Police Station, and the Sub-county Criminal Investigations Office visited the scene, which was processed by investigators.

The body of the deceased officer was moved to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
