The National Olympic committee of Kenya has confirmed
its readiness and commitment to help Team Kenya record stellar results at the
Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The committee says it will send a strong delegation to
the quadrennial games as they target a big medal haul.
Speaking during this year’s annual general meeting, NOC-K secretary general Francis Mutuku said Kenya is aiming to set a
record at the Olympics by winning as many medals as possible.
“I know everyone’s dream, wish and aspiration
is to participate in the Olympics.
“However, when you are seated where we
are, where there are minimal resources then you have to dig a little bit more
and find out who are the people that we can give resources to.
“Therefore, we gave grants to two
teams, that is the volleyball women’s team and the women 3x3 basketball team,” Said
Mutuku.
Mutuku also pointed out that all the sports federations
will hold national trials on time in order to select the national squad that
will join camp and commence training for the Olympics.
“We have a technical team to look at
the prospects of teams based on rankings and the performance and I believe that
will assist us in coming up with a formidable squad.” Added Mutuku.
His sentiments were echoed by the NOC-K president Paul
Tergat who laid bare their objective of elevating all sports in the country.
“We have been holding training
sessions in various sports administrations over the years as part of our
endeavour to enhance governance practice within our federations.” Said Tergat.
The 2024 Summer Olympics is a
forthcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 26
July to 11 August 2024 in France, with Paris as the main host city and 16 other
cities spread across metropolitan France, plus one subsite in Tahiti—an island
within the French overseas country and overseas collectivity of French
Polynesia.
