National Police Service Commission (NPSC) Chairperson Dr Amani Yuda Komora has urged the Kenya Police Service to digitise police abstracts, strengthen enforcement of PSV safety standards, and support the creation of a specialised insurance dispute-resolution mechanism to enhance efficiency and rebuild public confidence in the transport sector.

Dr Komora noted that insurance firms continue to suffer significant losses due to the police service’s continued use of manual systems, despite national efforts to digitise government operations. He also called on officers to ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations as the country enters the busy festive season.

Speaking in Nairobi at an event attended by First Lady Rachel Ruto and other dignitaries, Dr Komora stressed the urgent need for comprehensive digital reforms within the service. He said full automation of police abstracts, passenger manifests, and traffic occurrence books would help curb fraud, improve data accuracy, and strengthen operational integrity.

He further highlighted persistent gaps in road safety, including poor vehicle maintenance, overloading, and widespread non-compliance with standards, and urged coordinated action across relevant agencies to address these challenges.
