The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have raised concerns over the alarming number of road accident fatalities.

During a public forum in Kabati police station, Murang'a County, NTSA official Njeri Kuria highlighted the growing number of fatalities, urging motorists to be cautious and follow road safety rules.

"These numbers are nothing to be proud of. Last year alone we lost over 5,000 lives. This year alone we have lost over 1,100 people. I urge you to remain vigilant on roads," she said.

She added that Murang'a and Kiambu are among the top areas affected, calling for urgent action to minimize the numbers.

The forum brought together Ahadi Kenya Trust, TukTuk operators, law enforcement officers, and NTSA officials to discuss road safety.

The forum also strengthened community policing, with TukTuk operators pledging to work with police to fight crime.

Dr. Stanley Kamau, CEO of Ahadi Kenya Trust, urged operators to promote road safety, fight gender-based violence, and support vulnerable people -Pregnant mothers,Pads and elderly in accessing health facilities. 

Vincent Were, National Chair of the TukTuk Association, called for a roundtable meeting with county officials to address challenges facing operators.

"We will have our representative in the county NTSA committee so that they represent us when decisions in the transport sector are made," he said. 

The Kandara DCC Metrine Wafula acknowledged the forum for  highlighting several key issues affecting TukTuk operators, including the need for improved road safety awareness, strengthening relationships between operators and law enforcement, and decentralizing government services to make them more accessible

 TukTuk operators also urged to work with police to fight crime and promote peace and unity especially during the election period
