Machakos governor candidate Nzioka Waita has conceded defeat in the race to succeed Machakos governor Alfred Mutua.

During a press briefing on Friday evening, Waita, who was running on a CCU party ticket said his main rival, former Transport and Infrastructure Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti’s tactics out-shined his.

“The results will be what they will be. This was a contest of ideas and tactics, our ideas carried the day but our opponent’s tactics have taken and they have their way,” said Waita.

"I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate our incoming Governor for the County of Machakos Hon. Wavinya Ndeti. I wish her & her team every success as she takes over the reigns of the County 016."

He was accompanied by his running mate, former Machakos County Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi.

The two thanked Machakos people for their support but nonetheless noted that there were irregularities raised about the electoral process that were not addressed.

“We are grateful to the people of Machakos for the support they gave us but the election is what it is and the outcome is what it is,” added the former State House Chief of Staff.

Waita and Ndeti were facing off in the four-candidate race that also included United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairman Johnson Muthama and Rose Mulwa of the Empowerment and Liberation Party (ELP).
