Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader
Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed claims of betraying his former One Kenya
Alliance (OKA) partners.
Mudavadi disclosed that his fallout with the
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU’s Gideon Moi and Cyrus Jirongo was to
counter their alleged looming betrayal.
The ANC leader said he had sensed their
impending pact with Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja and thus needed to secure
his space in the political arena.
“I said it very early that the way I studied
it, OKA was operating like a subsidiary of Azimio and when I sensed that, I
said this is not our initial intention of getting together. These are
apologists of Azimio,” Musalia said in an interview with the Nation newspaper.
"For a long time, OKA was operating as a
subsidiary of Azimio and the decision I took was that I did not want to be a
shareholder in that political subsidiary."
Musalia went further to refer to the recent
deed of an agreement signed by the OKA principals with Narc Kenya leader Martha
Karua, saying that he had predicted the move before his earthquake alliance
with Deputy President William Ruto
“If I am not wrong, isn't that what they are
doing now as we speak? To the extent that they are signing a pact and they are
forming a tripartite arrangement to work with who?” He posed.
The former vice president seemingly rubbished
the betrayal sentiments which have constantly been used to describe his new
alliance with the DP saying it should not be taken personally.
The ANC leader noted that he did not want to
be taken by surprise by their plot and was acting to secure his own ambition.
“There is no betrayal here. This is politics.
I mean, were you just going to sit quietly there when people are conniving, and
then at the very tail end, they put you in a situation where you have very
little legroom to deal with the situation?" Mudavadi said.
He added: "As far as I am concerned, I
have been vindicated."
