A lightning strike has claimed one life in Kilifi County as
heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across parts of the country, with flooding
also disrupting transport along a key highway in Narok County.
In Kaloleni sub-county, Kilifi,
authorities confirmed that a fatal incident linked to adverse weather was
reported following a lightning strike accompanied by whirlwinds. The victim’s
body was retrieved and taken to the Mariakani Hospital mortuary.
Kilifi County Commissioner David
Wanyonyi said officials are on the ground sensitizing residents on safety
measures amid the ongoing extreme weather conditions, urging communities to
remain cautious during storms.
Meanwhile in Narok County,
flooding and heavy silt deposition have affected a section of the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok
(B7) Road at Kedong Ranch near Suswa, significantly disrupting traffic flow.
The Kenya National Highways
Authority (KeNHA) has since moved in to clear the silt and restore access along
the busy transport corridor.
Narok County Commissioner Kipkech
Lotiata advised motorists to avoid the affected section and instead use
alternative routes, including Ngong–Suswa, Nairobi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau
Narok–Narok, and Nairobi–Naivasha–Longonot–Suswa.
The incidents come amid heightened concerns over the impact of
ongoing heavy rains being experienced in various parts of the country, with
authorities continuing to monitor the situation and issue advisories to
minimize risk to life and property.
