Opposition leaders have accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of deploying inadequate KIEMS kits during the ongoing enhanced continuous voter registration.

The leaders, on the second day of their tour in the Ukambani region, also raised concerns over limited personnel deployed to the field, saying this is affecting the effectiveness of the ongoing listing of new voters.

The leaders returned to Ukambani to rally support for the United Opposition and encourage locals to participate in the one-term campaign.

It was during a series of stopovers that the leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the way the IEBC deployed the KIEMS kits, saying they are inadequate.

"We have been observing the registration exercise and we are not satisfied. There are many areas where these machines do not work, some places have insufficient kits, and others lack enough personnel," stated Eugene Wamalwa, DAP-K party leader.

The leaders said the IEBC has not addressed challenges raised so far regarding the exercise.

"Now we see our youth taking part in the ID initiative, but the IEBC is letting us down," Wamalwa added.

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka also expressed concern over delays in the issuance of identification cards and urged the government to clear any backlog in all stations and Huduma centres.

"It is your right, if you are born in Kenya, to be issued with an ID, but the Ruto government is giving them to non-citizens," stated Kalonzo Musyoka.

"We urge President Ruto to ensure IDs are issued quickly here as they are being rushed elsewhere," added DP party leader Justin Muturi.

The opposition leaders used the Ukambani tour to encourage residents to take advantage of the new voter listing exercise.

"President Ruto, one term; Kasongo, one term; you liar, wantam," stated DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, rallying the locals.
