With controversy over the establishment of the Ksh.5 trillion National Infrastructure Fund intensifying, the United Opposition leaders want the planned establishment of the fund halted.
The leaders, who include DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front's Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, urged Kenyans to reject the controversial bill over credibility concerns.
"This fund draws procurement corruption," Kalonzo stated.
"They are creating a fund that will not be subject to audit and oversight," Gachagua noted.
"There are no established audit and follow-up channels put in place to have the funds accountable to taxpayers," Wamalwa highlighted.
The opposition leaders also claim that the creation of the Ksh.5 trillion National Infrastructure Fund is aimed at financing the 2027 presidential campaigns.
"These funds are meant to bribe Kenyans to influence the presidential campaigns," Gachagua pointed out.
"There will be no accountability on how these funds will be used, it is grand corruption," Kalonzo added.
The leaders also asked Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi to resign for allegedly misleading Kenyans regarding the purpose of the National Infrastructure Fund.
"He has been lying. What do you expect when his boss lies often? The CS Treasury should be held accountable," the DCP leader remarked.
On the new plans by the government to redevelop Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the United Opposition claims the move is aimed at sneaking in controversial private investor Adani Group through the back door.
"We successfully blocked the Ksh.200 billion Adani loot through JKIA Airport, right now we hear they want to sneak him back through the back door," Wamalwa stated.
The leaders, who later attended the civil society-led People's Dialogue Forum on good governance at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, urged the youth to take advantage of the upcoming mass voter registration and register ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The United Opposition says it will seek legal action should Parliament pass the bill.
