The victim, identified by locals as Moureen, was found lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit, prompting widespread shock and outrage in the quiet village.
Area MCA Daniel Gitau confirmed the incident, stating that he was alerted by residents shortly after 4 p.m. “We received distress calls from Vatican village reporting a murder.
Upon arrival, we found the woman had been killed — her throat had been slit,” Gitau said. He urged members of the public to share any information that could aid in the identification and apprehension of the suspect.
Human rights advocate Betty Muchina, a Nyandarua resident, condemned the killing and criticized the authorities for what she described as slow responses to such crimes. “Femicide cases in Nyandarua are alarmingly common, yet justice often comes too late — if at all,” said Muchina.
“We are demanding swift and transparent investigations. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
The gruesome discovery was made during a heavy downpour. Mildred Khavai, a neighbour, recounted the moment she learned of the murder. “I had gone out with a bucket to collect rainwater when I heard the victim’s child calling me,” Khavai told Inooro FM.
“When I entered the house, I found Moureen had been killed. I rushed outside screaming for help.”
Nyandarua Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that investigations are underway, but no arrests have been made so far.
The body of the deceased was moved to JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital Mortuary as police continue with their probe.
