Paralifter Wawira claims bronze at Commonwealth Games

Paralifter Hellen Wawira Kariuki finishing third in the
women’s lightweight final to take bronze as she become the latest non track and
field athlete to win a medal for Kenya at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham,
England.
Wawira, coached by David Omondi, lifted 95kg and 97kgs before
failing to lift 99kg ending up with a mean weightlift of 98.5kg.
British power-lifter Zoe Newson, 30, edged her teammate
Olivia Broome by two points to take the gold medal.
Broome increased her PB by 4kg in today's competition to win
the silver medal after going head-to-head in the women's lightweight final.
The English pair had an average of 102.2 and 100.0
respectively.
So far Kenya sits 14th on the medal standings with one gold,
three silvers and four bronze.
