A man from Kitutu Chache North, Kisii County, who was on the run after killing his brother’s wife and her two children has been arrested.

A police report says Alex Ayata, 27, killed the children aged five and two years by slashing them with a machete.

Ayata and his brother have reportedly been fighting for a long time and he is said to have killed his brother's family to frustrate him.

"Moments before the savage attack of the 27-year-old wife and her two children aged 4 and 3, neighbours reported to have witnessed heated altercations between the murder suspect and his brother Patrick Omuga over an unestablished issue," a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday morning stated.

The police said Ayata, who had run into hiding was apprehended on Tuesday night.

"The area security forces were mobilised to have the malefactor cornered before he could leave the region, efforts that bore fruits last night," the DCI.

The deceased’s bodies were taken to the Kisii Referral Hospital mortuary.
