Police in Kiambu County have recovered a stolen firearm and several rounds of ammunition following an incident in the Magana area of Thika East Sub-County, where an armed man was attacked by members of the public.

In a statement issued on Friday, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Munyu Police Station rushed to the scene after receiving information from the local administration. Upon arrival, they found the injured suspect and recovered a G3 rifle, two magazines, 68 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, several blank rounds, a penknife, and other related items.

According to the NPS, preliminary investigations have linked the recovered firearm to a previous incident in which a police weapon went missing within the Sub-County. The firearm and ammunition were secured and placed in police custody for further forensic and ballistic analysis.

Detectives are now pursuing leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding both the past theft and the latest attack.

“The National Police Service appeals to members of the public to refrain from acts of mob injustice and instead report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement authorities for appropriate and lawful action,” the statement read.

The Service further urged continued public cooperation in efforts to recover illegal firearms and enhance national security.
