Police recover stolen livestock in Mwea raid

According to Kiarukungu Location Chief Henry Kariuki, the suspect managed to escape during the operation, prompting a manhunt by police officers.

“The five cows were taken to Wang’uru Police Station, where they are awaiting identification. Two of them have already been positively identified by owners from Kagio in Ndia Constituency,” said Chief Kariuki on Friday.

During the raid, the suspect’s wife was arrested and is currently being held at Wang’uru Police Station as the search for her husband continues.

“This man is well known across Ndindiruku and Mithuthini villages. He even contested for the Tebere Ward MCA seat in 2022,” Chief Kariuki added.

Residents have raised concerns over the increasing cases of livestock theft in Kirinyaga, saying the crime continues to affect farmers economically.

“We are grateful to the Wang’uru Police officers for their swift action. The suspect has long claimed to be untouchable. We’ve been spending sleepless nights guarding our animals,” said local farmer John Wanjohi.

Police have intensified efforts to track down the suspect as investigations continue.
