Popular Gusii musician hospitalised after attempted suicide

Iconic  Kisii secular singer Henry Sagero, popularly known as Man Pepe Sagero, is fighting for his life at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Kisumu, following attempted suicide.

Sagero was over the weekend rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was found in his car unconscious, having ingested a pesticide in an attempt to take his own life.

According to his brother Isaac Sagero, the musician has been having family issues, which he says weighed him down.

"It's true my brother has been having issues in his family, and it is true he ingested poison with the aim of ending his life, but we saved him in time," Isaac said.

Beside music, Man Pepe Sagero is also a popular radio host. The musician is said to have dropped a two-page message on Whatsapp to a colleague detailing his struggles.

"I received the message which was accompanied with a video clip of him holding a bottle of a pesticide. It was something to do with family issues. We hurriedly made efforts to trace him, that is when we found him in his car and rushed him to KTRH," Bagaka said.

Sagero was last week in Dubai for performances, but his brother reveals he has been battling unending family issues.

He is widely regarded as one of the best singers to have ever emerged from the Gusii community, with many relating to his critical and entertaining music.

His song Omosiki N'eriogo (music is medicine) is one of the many popular songs among the Abagusii community.
