Potholed roads in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) are worrying motorists who have to drive through the capital.

A major side-stretch running parallel to Moi Avenue is slowly peeling away, leaving behind gaping holes that continue to damage vehicles and motorcycles.

Other important roads, extending further downtown, reportedly also have potholes, which continue to enlarge in size due to neglect.

Pictures seen by Wananchi Reporting show the stretch on Moi Avenue in very poor state. The stretch is used by motorists, cyclists, motorbike riders and pedestrians.

Residents now want all the potholed roads within and around the CBD renovated.

According to some of the motorists who spoke to Wananchi Reporting, the bad roads damage vehicles and motorcycles leading to regular economic loss.

“The roads are in bad state and this is damaging our vehicles and our business,” said Michael Kibe, a matatu driver in Nairobi.

According to Kibe, a number of feeder or side roads in the CBD are in very bad state.

Kibe pointed out another side road, just between Tom Mboya and Moi Avenue, often used by a famous Matatu Sacco as yet another eyesore in the CBD.

“The focus should not just be on the main roads, when the side roads in very bad state,” added Kibe.

“People from other African countries talk highly about our good infrastructure; our good roads, yet we still have potholes in the CBD. This is embarrassing in this day and age,” said Kibe.

According to the residents, the bad roads were lowering the status of the capital.

The residents also want roads in the downtown area of the capital, and even those in the estates improved.
