Prado ferrying 473kg of bhang intercepted after high-speed chase in Machakos

According to reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers based at Kyumbi had flagged down the vehicle, in the Kaloleni area.

The driver, however, ignored the directive and accelerated toward Mutituni, prompting a chase.

Police officers opened fire during the pursuit, disabling the vehicle’s tyres and sending it plunging into a valley near Kyanguli. The occupants escaped on foot, abandoning the SUV.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 473.7 kilograms of compressed cannabis hidden inside.

Machakos County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Kasim Baricha confirmed the recovery and said the suspects remain at large, though efforts to track them down are ongoing.

Investigators have launched an intensified manhunt and are working to establish both the origin of the narcotics and their intended destination.
