President Uhuru Kenyatta Thursday morning signed into law various pieces of legislation related to the budget, as well as the amended Political Parties Act.

President Kenyatta signed the Supplementary Appropriation (No. 2) Act, 2016, which authorizes the issue of certain sums of money out of the Consolidated Fund to pay for specific public services and purposes in the year ending 30 June 2016.

The President also signed the Appropriations Act 2016, that allows the National Treasury to issue out of the Consolidated Fund to spend in the year ending 30 June 2017.

This Act essentially paves the way for government spending for the next financial year and is effective 1 July 2017.

The President then signed into law the Consolidated Fund Warrant No. 1 of 2016/17 effectively authorizing government to draw and fund its projects, programmes and operations in 2016/17.

The President also signed into law the Political Parties (Amendment) Act, which provides a roadmap for the merger of political parties.

The event at State House was witnessed by the Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, National Assembly Majority Leader Adan Duale, Attorney-General Githu Muigai, Solicitor-General Njee Muturi and Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
