President Ruto forms multi-agency team to intensify war on corruption

In a presidential proclamation issued on Tuesday, the Head of State said the Multi-Agency Team on War Against Corruption (MAT) will boost coordination in investigations, prosecutions, financial intelligence, and asset recovery.

The team brings together 10 state agencies, including the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), Asset Recovery Agency (ARA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA). The Executive Office of the President (EOP) and the Office of the Attorney General will also take part.

According to the proclamation, the EOP will chair the team, while the Attorney General’s office will serve as its secretariat.

MAT has been tasked with enhancing inter-agency cooperation, developing joint strategies, and engaging both public and private stakeholders to strengthen preventive and enforcement measures. It will also work with domestic and international partners on the recovery of illicit assets and the fight against organized crime.

Additionally, the team will identify resource gaps across institutions, share best practices, and coordinate communication on anti-corruption progress.

Its operations will be financed from the budgetary allocations of the member agencies and other approved sources.

“The MAT shall, to the greatest extent possible, foster cooperation, coordination, and collaboration to enhance the effectiveness of the fight against corruption,” the proclamation stated.
