The race for top spot in the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League is shaping into a two-horse contest after Kenya Prisons women’s volleyball team matched Postbank Kenya women’s volleyball team at the summit with a commanding straight-sets victory over Kenya Army at the Nyayo National Stadium Basketball Court.

Kenya Prisons were in control throughout the encounter, sealing a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-13) win to move level on 18 points with Postbank after seven matches, both sides boasting identical records of six wins and one loss.

Meanwhile, Kenya Defence Forces women’s volleyball team tightened their grip on a top-four place with a ruthless 3-0 (25-11, 25-3, 25-9) triumph over Kenyatta University women’s volleyball team in an earlier fixture at the same venue.

Attention also turned to the men’s league, where Chema Volleyball Club recovered from a previous setback to claim a 3-1 victory over the Prisons Western volleyball team. Despite dropping the second set, Chema held their nerve to carry the day with a 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 scoreline.

In another thrilling men’s contest, Nairobi Prisons men’s volleyball team staged a stunning comeback from two sets down to edge Kenya Army men’s volleyball team 3-2 (24-26, 20-25, 28-26, 25-20, 15-9) in a five-set battle at the same venue on Sunday evening.

In the standings, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations volleyball team remain within touching distance of the leaders in third place on 15 points from six matches, while Kenya Defence Forces sit fourth with 12 points.

KCB Bank women’s volleyball team, who have games in hand, are fifth on 10 points, as Kenya Pipeline women’s volleyball team continue their perfect start with two wins from two matches to sit seventh.

Both KCB Bank and Kenya Pipeline are currently flying the country’s flag at the Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship 2026 in Cairo, Egypt, a factor that could influence the league dynamics in the coming rounds.

Further down the table, Nairobi Prisons have accumulated nine points, while A Plus VC and Young Spikers remain under pressure in the lower half. Kenya Army and Kenyatta University are still searching for their first wins of the season as the competition gathers pace.
