The government has declared “zero tolerance” for political violence, with Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo saying hooliganism, intimidation and disorder will not be tolerated as Kenyans exercise their democratic rights.

In a statement dated Sunday, March 1, 2026, Omollo said every Kenyan has the constitutional right to express themselves freely, but within the law, adding that cases involving violence and unlawful mobilisation must be dealt with through proper investigative and legal processes.

“This administration reaffirms its position that hooliganism and disorder will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and security agencies remain vigilant in ensuring accountability and maintaining public order,” Omollo said during a visit to Rutune School in Nyeri County.

Omollo said national government administrators in Nyeri, led by County Commissioner Josephat Biwot, are strengthening community safety and intensifying operations against illicit alcohol. He also urged closer collaboration between national officials, chiefs, assistant chiefs, village elders and elected leaders to protect lives and preserve cohesion.

He further raised concerns over gender-based violence (GBV), calling for community action to protect vulnerable persons.

On education, Omollo said he held consultations with the school’s leadership and education officials and noted the need to raise enrolment and improve performance, despite the school having adequate teaching staff.

He highlighted ongoing national reforms, including recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, construction of more than 25,000 classrooms, implementation of competency-based education, and reforms in university funding. He said Nyeri’s transition rate from primary to Junior Secondary School stands at 99 per cent.

Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, who also addressed the gathering, urged students to remain disciplined and focused, and called on parents and community leaders to support education.

Omollo also outlined development projects in Mukurweini Constituency, including Sh2.9 billion in road works, modern markets worth Sh162 million, affordable housing projects valued at Sh980 million, and student hostels with a capacity of 3,000 beds.

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga and other leaders attended the event.
