Karen marathon raises funds for needy school children

Organised by Fanaka Real Estate's corporate social responsibility arm, Fanaka Wema Foundation, and drawing runners from across Nairobi, the race offered 7km, 14km and 21km categories for adults and children. 

Adult registration was priced at Ksh 2,000 and children's registration at Ksh 1,500, with a T-shirt, medal and snacks provided for every participant. 

According to the organisers, every entry fee went directly towards tuition support for students who might otherwise be forced out of the classroom.

Themed "Run for Education," the marathon sort to fundraise for education purposes. Fanaka Real Estate Chief Executive Officer Moses Muriithi describes the Foundation's mandate as piloting "significant change" across its focus areas and driving "measurable impact through its partners across target communities" — a mission he says places education at the centre of the company's social responsibility agenda.

Fanaka Wema Foundation is the charitable arm of Fanaka Real Estate, a land-selling company that operates across the Nairobi Metropolis. 

Since its launch, the Foundation has concentrated its community work on education, social welfare and partnerships with organisations serving vulnerable populations.
