The Ministry of Education (MoE) has supplied over 1,193,070 Grade 10 textbooks to public senior schools across the country to facilitate seamless learning under the Competency-Based Curriculum.

In a statement on Sunday, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) said that the distribution made through 21 contracted Kenyan publishers, represents 71 per cent of the total books earmarked for distribution as at February 13, 2026.

The contracted publishers include Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB), Oxford University Press East Africa, East African Educational Publishers (EAEP), Longhorn Publishers, Storymoja Publishers, and other approved local firms.

KICD added that as at February 13, 1,670,264 quantities were ordered and 1,193,070 have been distributed.

Nairobi County has had the highest distribution of 86.71% followed by the Central Kenya region at 80.18%.

The Ministry has assured schools and stakeholders that the remaining consignment will be delivered promptly, with all Grade 10 course materials expected to be in public senior schools by the end of February 2026.

On Janaury 6, 2026, publishers received Ksh.5.64 billion for the printing and distribution of Grade 10 textbooks.

The funds were used in settling part of the outstanding debts owed to publishers and to facilitate the printing of 35 approved textbooks and literary works for Grade 10 learners in public schools.

KICD CEO Prof. Charles Ong’ondo, in a joint statement with the Kenya Publishers Association (KPA) Kiarie Kamau, confirmed payments to publishers and clearing of pending bills had already begun.

MoE added that out of the 11,867,325 quantities ordered, a total of 11,142,230 have been printed and 8,355,780 have been distributed so far.
