Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure
Kindiki has stated that acts of vandalism railway infrastructure will be treated as
acts of terror.
Speaking in Makueni County on Monday, the CS warned those engaged
in the vandalism activities.
“Those citizens who are storming the railways and destroying railway infrastructure, I want you to know that act is terrorism. Those who are engaged in that activity are enemies of Kenya, just like terrorists,” he said.
Kindiki added that those found within the
vicinity of protected areas like railways will be charged under the Protected
Areas Act.
“Any person found within the vicinity of a
protected facility including railway, or critical water reservoirs will be
dealt with in accordance with the Protected Areas Act. It is the most serious
and punitive law; it is the law that guards the State House,” he warned.
This is after the government gazetted additional
administrative units in Makueni County to improve service delivery.
These include one sub-county, four divisions,
twenty-eight locations, and forty-eight sub-locations spread across the County.
The new administrative units will also
improve security, public order, and law enforcement to provide a conducive
environment for socio-economic development.
The enhanced law enforcement capability is expected to tame the incidents of vandalism of critical infrastructure, especially the
railway, illicit brews, defilement, suicide, and human-wildlife conflict.
