Nyaribari Chance Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda has dismissed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for his remarks on the status of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

According to Jhanda, Sifuna, who is also ODM’s Secretary General, has showcased poor leadership at the party and should resign lest he be ousted.

“Sifuna must resign or be expelled from ODM. You cannot dine at the table of unity by day and sharpen swords of sabotage by night,” he said.

“That’s political conmanship. If you think you have better ideas than President Ruto,  run against him. Enough of the double speak from ODM.”

He further claimed that Sifuna is only expressing his bitterness for failing to make it to President William Ruto’s cabinet under the broad-based agreement.

“Former ODM SG in waiting Edwin Sifuna lobbied hard to be part of the cabinet during the formation of the broad-based government but his bid was flatly rejected,” he opined on X.

“CS Dr.Oparanya was picked for the very position Sifuna had his eyes on. Now you understand the bitterness.”

While appearing on Citizen TV’s Explainer show on Tuesday, Sifuna openly admitted that ODM has failed to put its house in order and it lacks ideological clarity, leaving members and supporters unsure about the party's stance on critical national issues.

Sifuna added that ODM no longer speaks with a single voice, blaming the formation of the broad-based government which has seen the appointment of ODM members to President William Ruto’s cabinet.

His sentiments have also attracted harsh ridicule from former party chairman and current Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi.

Mbadi chastised Sifuna for making divisive remarks and urged him to respect the party's leadership.

“Between the Party Leader and the Secretary General, whose decision is final?” Mbadi questioned.

Mbadi also revealed that Cabinet Secretaries who accepted positions in the Kenya Kwanza administration did so with Raila Odinga's full knowledge and approval, and after extensive consultations with President William Ruto.

“I’m glad he clarified those are his personal opinions,” Mbadi said, dismissing Sifuna’s recent remarks as unrepresentative of the party’s official stance.
