The furnace doors swing open at the ASK Showground in Nakuru this Saturday as Menengai Oilers hosts KCB Rugby Club in what many have dubbed the Kenya Cup match of the weekend.
The kick-off is set
for 4.00 PM, and the stakes could not be sharper.
KCB arrives in Nakuru,
sitting third on the Kenya Cup table with 39 points after eight rounds, breathing
down the necks of joint leaders Kabras Sugar and Oilers, who both sit on 40
points.
Just a single point
separates the top three, turning Week 9 into a high-voltage scramble for home
semifinal advantage.
The bankers have named
a muscular and balanced squad captained by Centre Bob Muhati.
The forward pack sees
Nick Okullo, Fidel Maina, and Wilhite Mususi anchor the front row, with George
Ooro and Sheldon Kahi tasked with controlling the back row exchanges.
At half back, Shujaa
co-captain Samuel Asati partners Brian Wahinya in a combination that has
steered KCB’s attacking rhythm all season.
Head coach Andrew
Amonde has emphasized discipline and forward dominance as the blueprint against
an unbeaten Oilers outfit. The battle in the scrums and lineouts could decide
who dictates territory and tempo.
Form favours KCB’s
confidence. They have won all eight matches so far, crossing the 30-point mark
in nearly every outing.
Last weekend, they
dismantled MMUST 61-16 at The Den in Ruaraka, following earlier commanding wins over Nondescripts, Blak Blad, Nakuru RFC and Mwamba, including a thunderous 80-point display against the latter.
Across the league,
Week 9 fixtures also see Kabras Sugar host Nondescripts in Kakamega, while the
relegation battle simmers with Kisumu RFC facing Nakuru RFC in a survival duel.
