Former Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau has made a return to public service following his appointment as the new chairperson of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) board.

In a gazette notice from President William Ruto on Friday, Kamau's new role takes effect from today and will serve for a period of three years.

Mr Kamau replaces Lewis Nguyai who served in the position since February 2021 after his appointment by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Lewis Nguyai is a former Kikuyu MP.

President Ruto has also appointed ex-army boss Julius Karangi as chair of the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) board.

He replaces former Kinangop MP David Ngugi who was appointed in May 2021. Karangi will serve until July 20 2024.

Elsewhere President Ruto has appointed Nyamira county governorship hopeful Walter Nyambati as the chairperson of the Board of Geothermal Development Company, for a period of three (3) years.
