Nairobi United coach Ali Salim on Friday said they are eyeing a positive finish to their CAF Confederations Cup maiden campaign when they host Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca this Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium.

With nothing to play for after elimination from the competition the tactician expressed the need to play for honour in the final games in order to mark their first ever appearance with a few points.

Nairobi United's journey in the CAF Confederation Cup ended in the group stage following their 1-0 defeat to Azam FC in a clash staged in Zanzibar last Sunday.

They will wind up their group campaign with a trip to DR Congo to face Maniema on February 15.

“It has been a good experience as a team but we want to finish the remaining two games with good results.  If we can get four or three points that would be good. The aim is to get points in the final two matches.”

Following a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet, Salim is seeking to motivate his players ahead of the tricky tie against the Moroccans.

“After the loss it wasn't good. We believe we want to bounce back in our last match at home. We want to showcase good discipline before we play the last game.”

“They've been performing well in terms of training yesterday after the game in midweek. Today was also good so we will wait for tomorrow as the last session before Sunday's game.”

Salim cited the ongoing transition with the new players as a challenge that his squad had to face across the season as they tried to compete on all fronts during the campaign.

“We've been building the team during the season. We have good players but they haven't gelled 100%. We want to give them an opportunity in this game to try to see their performance, fitness levels and their interactions with other players before we can fully focus on our league campaign.”

Defender Brian Magare brimmed with confidence ahead of the Sunday clash.

“We are expecting a tough match playing a really good opponent. We are looking to bounce back and get back to winning ways and this would be a good place for us to start.”

“At the moment the experience we are getting is more important than anything else.  As much as we are out of the tournament we are looking to learn as much as possible in the final games.”
