Sprinter Mark Otieno chuffed after nailing World Athletics Relays slot

Sprinter Mark
Otieno has expressed his excitement after qualifying to represent Kenya at the
upcoming global competitions, including the World Athletics Relays and the African
Championships in Athletics.
Speaking after
finishing second at the national trials held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex,
Otieno said he feels in top form and ready to deliver strong performances on
the international stage.
“I am happy to
have qualified to be part of the team that will represent the country in the
two competitions. I feel good and ready to give my best to the fans,” he said.
Kenya’s charge
at the World Relays -set for May 2–3 in Gaborone -will be led by Africa’s
fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala. He will be joined by Otieno, Moses Onyango,
and Ronald Koech on the men’s side. The women’s team includes Millicent Ndoro,
Diana Aoko, and Eunice Kadogo.
Otieno believes
the team has what it takes to perform strongly against top global competition.
“The team is
very strong and everyone was selected on merit. We have the right mental
strength to perform well, and we will put in the hard work required to make
Kenyans proud,” he added.
Looking ahead,
Otieno has also set his sights on the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 23
to August 2 in Glasgow, where he hopes to secure a podium finish.
“It’s a
competition I have been looking forward to. It is always fun to represent your
country, and I hope to get the chance to be part of it and win something for
Kenya,” he said.
