Meru County boxing association in conjunction with the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) will stage the second leg of the national boxing league.

The three-day event will be held at the Youth Empowerment Resource Centre in Kinoru, from Thursday to Friday this week.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kenya Police boxing team head coach also serving as the federation Secretary General David Munuhe has highlighted the financial constraints that have led to withdrawal of some teams.

“Police is a big team, likewise KDF is also a big team and I’m hoping the two teams will bring the biggest number of participants. And that’s why they mainly become the biggest in terms of participation that also includes the prisons Service.

“Other teams experience financial problems and that’s why they don’t bring full teams to the event.” Munuhe said.

With regard to his team’s participation, Munuhe exhibited optimism but also didn’t rule out the possibility of facing stiff competition.

“In preparations, I believe Kenya police have fared well and  can do as well as they did in Trans Nzoia and come out top again. However, don't forget that KDF also wants to win the league so the competition will be stiff,” he said.

The first leg was held in Trans Nzoia County on September where the disciplined forces Kenya Police and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) dominated the proceedings after earning 27 and 26 points respectively.
