Migori Youth forward Syphas Otieno has shared his delight after making a successful return from injury, playing a key role in his sides emphatic 4-0 win over Nzoia Sugar FC in a National Super League (NSL) clash at the weekend.

The striker had been out of action for three weeks but made a late appearance in the match, featuring for the final 10 minutes. Despite limited time on the pitch, Otieno made an immediate impact, finding the back of the net to cap off a dominant performance by Migori Youth.

His goal not only sealed the convincing victory but also propelled him back to the top of the NSL scoring charts. Otieno now has 18 goals to his name, drawing level with Collins Mwangi of Fortune Sacco FC in the race for the Golden Boot.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Otieno expressed his excitement at being back in action, noting that contributing to the team’s success made his return even more special. His focus has now shifted to Migori Youth’s next crucial fixture.

"I'm happy to be back to chase the Golden Boot. I've been out for treatment and that made me miss three matches, making my challenger go ahead of me with one goal..but I have returned and I will keep banging those goals to finally win the Golden Boot," he said.

The league leaders are set to face Mombasa United FC in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter. Otieno described the upcoming clash as “like a final,” underlining its significance in the title race.

"That one is a must-win fixture for us, if we get maximum points, we'll edge closer to emerging champions....and that is our goal as we prepare for the game," he added.

The striker also made a bold promise ahead of the match, vowing to score a hat-trickjust as he did when the two sides met earlier in the season.

Migori Youth currently sit at the top of the NSL standings with 64 points, tied with Mombasa United but holding a slight advantage thanks to a superior goal difference of four. With both teams level on points, their upcoming meeting next weekend could prove decisive in determining the direction of the title race.
