President William Ruto has warned the youth
against falling into the opposition trap, saying they are only interested in
their votes with no plan to resolve their issues.
Speaking while launching the second phase
of Nyota Project, where 50,000 youth received money for startups, President
Ruto called on the youth to elect leaders who have already shown a track record
to address their plight.
With the 2027 general election beckoning,
the scramble for the youth vote is on. The President, who was
in Eldoret Thursday, rallied the youth behind his re-election as he unveiled
the second phase of the Nyota programme, where approximately 50,000
beneficiaries received Ksh. 22,000 deposited into their Nyota mobile wallets,
with an additional Ksh. 3,000 allocated to their NSSF savings account.
President Ruto says he is executing his
plan that will end the unemployment menace and told the youth gathered in
Eldoret to be wary of the opposition that is only interested in their votes in
2027.
“Wale wa upinzani kazi yao ni kusema nyinyi vijana mtawapigia
kura...hawasemi mpango wao ya vijana.. Kama mtu anataka kura yako lazima akueleze
atukasaidiaje...,” said
Ruto.
The Head of
State, while courting the youthful vote, said his
administration has already secured jobs for the youth.
“Since we got into office, we have already sent 500,000 youth
to work abroad. Kazi yetu ni kulipa ndege na ukianza kazi kule unaturudishia hiyo
pesa tunatuma vijana wengine ng’ambo wafanye kazi...,” he stated.
According to President Ruto, his
competitors lack a track record, terming them clueless opportunists.
President Ruto also defended his First
World dream, saying it is on course and that IT development will be largely
locally financed.
“...in 2 years NSSF has saved Ksh.600 billion; by
next year we will have saved Ksh.1 trillion, and we will no longer be
borrowing from banks...,”
he noted.
The disbursement of Nyota funds benefited
youth drawn from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Trans-Nzoia, Turkana, and
West Pokot counties.
Similar disbursements will be done on
Friday and Monday next week for Nakuru, Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Baringo,
Laikipia, Isiolo, and Samburu counties.
