Two arrested as police recover stolen laptops and phones in Maseno

A report by the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the operation began after a complainant reported the theft of his laptop from his hostel room at Maseno Police Station on September 10, 2026.

Investigations traced the stolen laptop to an electronics repair shop within Maseno Township where the complainant accompanied police officers and positively identified the device. 

The shop owner told officers that he had purchased the laptop from a third party and was instructed to contact and lure the seller back to the shop, where they arrested him.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of a laptop and a mobile phone, which were later identified as belonging to another university student who had previously reported that the devices had been stolen. 

Police then conducted a thorough search of the electronics repair shop, where they recovered 10 additional laptops and two mobile phones.

The shop owner could not account for how he got the devices, raising further suspicion that they could be linked to theft cases.

The suspects have been placed in police custody at Maseno Police Station as investigations continue ahead of their arraignment in court. 

Police have documented all the recovered laptops and mobile phones and retained them at the station as exhibits to support the ongoing investigations.
