Police in Nakuru Wednesday night shot dead two most wanted criminals near Naivas supermarket along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.

The two were gunned down after defying police orders to stop as they travelled from Nakuru Town in a small car.

Nakuru County Police Commander Hassan Rashid Barua said the two are believed to have been involved in a robbery at a petrol station in Njoro Tuesday night.

He said that immediately after the robbery, a vehicle used by the suspects drove towards Nakuru and was spotted Wednesday night prompting police to trail it. He says that the occupants then opened fire at the police officers who flagged it down, something that forced the officers to fight back killing the two on the spot.

A AK47 rifle, a short gun, a toy gun and ten rounds of ammunition were recovered from the robbers.

The bodies were taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital mortuary.
