The talks follow a high-level meeting of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the region, that was held in Bujumbura on Saturday, and attended by Heads of States and Government officials from member states.
The two leaders recapped the 11th Regional Oversight Mechanism summit and discussed the upcoming East African Community Summit.
Uhuru reiterated the commitment of EAC, under the Nairobi Peace Process framework, in restoring peace in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“Without doubt I hope for peace for the people of the Congo peace and then ultimately for displaced persons to be able to go back to the homes to resettle, to go back to their farms and for stability to be restored in the region,” Uhuru said.
“The stability in Congo is going to favour the entire region so that people can trade with one another, people can move goods and services to bring development and prosperity to the entire region,” added the EAC facilitator.
During the meeting held in Bujumbura on Saturday, the leaders called on armed groups in eastern DRC to ceasefire with no conditions, and engage in voluntary disarmament.
