In response to a surge of vandalism and theft of electrical equipment at Liani sub-location in Kivaa location, Embu County, Kenya Power – Mount Kenya security team managed to arrest one of the most notorious vandal in the area by the name Haron Kyalo Mutunga. 

The Security seam led by Kenya Power Embu County Security Officer, Chokera, while acting on intelligence, led operation in collaboration with NGAO team, had earlier arrested a scrap metal dealer Purity Katavi, who was found in possession of vandalised transformer copper windings. 

The suspect then led the team to Kyalo's residence in Liani sub-location where assorted materials belonging to Kenya Power were found.

"Vandalism has caused us a lot of pain as a company. We've not only lost much of our infrastructure to vandalism, but we've lost business. When a transformer is brought down, we lose on sales per hour. Vandalism also puts us a precarious condition with our customers,” Chokera said. 

Since July last year, a total of 1,026 people have been arrested across the country and prosecuted for various illegal activities within the electricity network including illegal connection and way-leave encroachment. 

Kenya Power joined forces with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to tactle the menace of vandalism.
