Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Jehow has sounded the alarm over divisive politics, urging leaders to tone down their rhetoric and put national unity ahead of political ambitions as Kenya heads towards the 2027 General Election.

The first-term legislator said politicians have a responsibility to set the pace for peaceful coexistence, particularly as political parties prepare for what is expected to be fiercely contested nominations and campaigns.

Speaking during the graduation of hundreds of youths who completed Phase One of a driving course offered in partnership with Alaaruf Driving School in Wajir County, Jehow challenged political leaders to avoid rhetoric that could inflame communities and undermine peace.

“We as leaders need to be in the front line preaching peace and peaceful coexistence amongst Kenyans,” she said.

The MP's remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections, with leaders positioning themselves and parties expected to face competitive nominations across the country.

Jehow said political competition should not be allowed to destroy relationships among communities, insisting that leaders must promote unity even when seeking votes.

The legislator also challenged the hundreds of graduating youths to look beyond traditional employment and exploit opportunities created by technology and the digital economy.

“There is a lot of internet usage these days, and this can help your career growth as well as bring food on the table,” she said.

The initiative is sponsored through the Wajir County National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) in partnership with Alaaruf Driving School.

The programme seeks to equip young people with practical and marketable skills that can improve their chances of securing employment and becoming self-reliant.
