Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has welcomed presidential ambitions by former Deputy Chief of Staff for Delivery and Government Efficiency, Eliud Owalo.

Speaking at Ramba Primary School during the commissioning of a fence and gate funded by the NG-CDF, Amollo said anyone who wants to vie for president is free to do so. The MP, however, noted that the difficult part is winning or even getting substantial votes.

“Anyone who wants to vie for the presidency is free to do so. Fortunately, our constitution allows anyone to declare. You can run as an independent, on your party… running is not the difficult part, the difficult part is winning or even getting substantial votes,” said Amollo.

Amollo acknowledged Owalo as “a son of Rarieda” but emphasized that ODM remains the dominant political force in the area.

“Eliud Owalo is a son of Rarieda. If he wants to run for president, I am sure he is free to run. For us, we know, in this region our party is ODM, but we wish him well,” added the Rarieda MP.

Amollo further dismissed speculation that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is weakening in Nyanza following the death of former party leader Raila Odinga.

Amollo cautioned against attempts by emerging political outfits to exploit perceived uncertainty within ODM.

He said that there are many people who have thought that the death of Odinga is an opportunity to finish ODM in Nyanza and countrywide.

The legislator also dismissed speculation about his plans to contest the Siaya governorship seat in 2027. Instead, he confirmed his intention to seek a third term as Rarieda MP.
