Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said it takes
more to run for the presidency and win, and those who think they can beat
President William Ruto easily will be surprised by the realities on the ground.
Speaking when he unveiled the Sikhendu Secondary School classroom
block in Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, Mudavadi told those in the
opposition that winning the presidency is not a walk in the park.
"Those who think they will beat President Ruto should
better think twice, winning presidency is not easy. President Ruto has done a lot
for the country and his re-election is guaranteed by his popularity," said
Mudavadi.
The Prime CS urged the people of Trans Nzoia that they should
help make 2027 petition-free by ensuring that President Ruto wins re-election
with a wide margin to discourage petitions which are energy sapping to
development.
"Kenya had presidential election petitions from 2013 to
2022, but the 2027 will be different and unique, we want the victory to stand
out," said Mudavadi, who also doubles as the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs
CS.
On regional politics, Mudavadi said the ruling United
Democratic Alliance (UDA) party will field candidates in all the elective seats
across all the Western Region counties.
"We encourage many aspirants to join and run on a UDA
ticket. We will support those who will win the primaries, we will support
them," he said.
He said that even President Ruto, the late former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga and himself went into nominations for the 2007 General Election.
"When the late Raila won the nomination, we went ahead to
support him strongly. In 2026, we will have a free and fair nominations in UDA
and we will support those who win," said Mudavadi.
The Prime CS said priority number one is to make President
Ruto re-elected and that he himself will not jostle for positions, including
number two.
"I don't want to be number two and be seen to be jostling
for the sake of it. My effort is to ensure the President wins. At the right
time I want to be number one," said Mudavadi.
He said the opposition were riding on a wave that was built on
quick sand, adding that their effort will not make it.
"I told you in 2022 that President Ruto will win the election,
I can tell you without any fear or doubt that the Head of State will win his
re-election. One can take it to the bank," said Mudavadi.
He urged the residents of Trans Nzoia to be vigilant on the
use of their county resources so that funds go into development.
"Trans Nzoia has got allocation of Ksh.40 billion to the
county in the last four years. We now want to check on what it has been done,”
said Mudavadi.
