Mathare United Women are aiming to cap off a dominant first half of the season with an unbeaten run when they face Mombasa Olympics in their final National Super League (NSL) match of the first leg next weekend.
The Nairobi-based side has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far and currently sits top of the table with 28 points after recording nine wins and one draw from ten matches.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, head coach Aluocha says the team is determined to maintain its momentum as the season progresses, revealing that the club is already planning to strengthen its squad ahead of the second leg.
"The first leg has been good for us because we have not lost a match. Our target is to maintain the consistency in the second leg, even though it will not be easy because teams are going to reinforce and come back stronger.
"We are also going to strengthen the squad and hope to stretch our winning streak," she said.
Mathare United were last weekend handed maximum points after their scheduled opponents, Barcelona from Nyahururu, failed to honor the fixture, earning the team a walkover victory. While the result helped them consolidate their position at the top, the coach expressed concern over the professionalism in the second-tier league.
"I was not impressed. It will be difficult for us to approach them in the second leg because we don't know how they play. Such things should not be happening in the NSL." She noted.
With promotion to the top flight firmly in their sights, Mathare United Women will be keen to close the first leg on a high note and further underline their credentials as strong title contenders when they take on Mombasa Olympics.
