A 31-year-old woman from Kahutha-D village
in Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County lost her life shortly after
delivering at home.
Rahab Wambui, a mother of four died at Ndaragwa Health Centre where she was rushed by neighbours. They found her
writhing in pain at her house at around 11:00 pm Monday night after receiving
distress calls from her children.
According to witnesses, she was bleeding
profusely and efforts to seek a vehicle to take her to hospital were futile.
Margeret Wambui told Citizen Digital they
sought help from a boda boda motorcyclist who was on his way to the night.
However, the eight-kilometre journey to the health
facility took longer as the motorcycle also developed a mechanical breakdown
and the patient, her infant, and a neighbour who had escorted her to the health
centre had no option but to wait.
She recounted how they struggled with the
patient until they arrived and received but unfortunately, she succumbed due to
complications and bleeding.
Residents claim that in the village, there
was no one who could have offered first aid services at home before she was
taken to hospital.
The deceased's body is now lying at the Nyahururu
County and Referral Hospital as funeral arrangements get underway.
The residents lamented that the lack of a health
facility nearby and the poor road network was to blame for the loss of life,
saying they could have gotten assistance with ease.
Speaking to the press at the deceased's home for burial arrangements, they now
want the county government of Nyandarua to move quickly and establish a
dispensary nearby.
They claimed that the lack of such crucial
facilities denies them access to critical services such as health and
communication.
Additionally, the village is among those that are
experiencing drought forcing residents to rely on relief food due to failed
rains for a prolonged period.
