Women in construction celebrate gains, call for more opportunities in sector

The second edition of
Women in Construction Sector International Women's Day Celebrations brought
together 143 ladies working in the construction industry in Kenya.

Jackson Magondu, Director General of Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA)
highlighted that Kenya's construction sector is central to national development
— from roads to housing, from industrial parks to digital cities.
"When we give
women opportunity in the construction industry,
we gain stronger infrastructure," he said.
The 2026 celebrations were themed: "Give to Gain: Opportunities for Women in the
Construction Industry."
Engineers Board of
Kenya Registrar/CEO Eng Margaret Ogai emphasized the importance of inclusivity
and innovation in the construction industry.
"Empowering
women in construction isn't just a moral imperative, it's a game-changer for
our sector's growth," she said.
The National
Construction Authority female-led members of Board present noted that presence
of many qualified women on the Board strenththened delivery of its construction
sector regulatory mandate.
The event brought
together industry leaders, policymakers, and women pushing boundaries in
construction.
The celebrations
provided an opportunity for young professionals to share insights on navigating
the field.
The night was
filled with networking, inspiration, and a clear message: the future of
construction is diverse and bright.
