Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa has urged Kenyans to come out in large numbers and register on the newly launched Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) program, saying it's going to accommodate all Kenyans at a lower rate.

Speaking during the official launch of Social Health Authority (SHA) program in Eldoret, Barasa said once registered, Kenyans will receive medication free of charge from lower public health facilities.

“If you register….When you go to a health centre you will be treated and given drugs for free,” she said.

“If you pay 2.75% of your income, you will be receive services at level 4, 5 and 6 facilities. Cancer….diabetes… and other patients will be covered,” added the Health CS.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii also assured residents that the insurance will lift the burden for families with patients ailing from chronic diseases.

Bii slammed a section of leaders for what he called they are opposing important government projects.

The roll out of SHA saw an end to decades long National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
