Fatuma
Zarika returned from a three-year hiatus Friday to headline an Ultra Fight
Boxing series card and got the win in dominant fashion at Broadwalk Mall in
Parklands, Nairobi.
The Kenyan produced
a fourth-round knockout victory over Tanzania’s Fatuma Yazidu to retain her
World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Featherweight title.
Fatuma
(33-13-2) looked sharp despite her lengthy layoff, hammering Yazidu (20-10-1)
with a left hook and again with a clean hook in the second round.
Yazidu took
a beating in the third with the Kenyan landing a big bomb before dropping her Tanzanian
rival before the waved the fight over.
"I want
to thank the sponsors, Ultra Fight Series Boxing promoter Maurice Odera, the
Kenya Professional Boxing Commission for helping me prepare for this
fight," Zarika said post fight.
The
38-year-old had last fought in November 2020 in Tanzania where she won against
home boxer Patience Mastara via a unanimous points decision to win the title
she defended against Yazidu.
She lost her
WBC World Super Bantamweight title in 2019 when she lost her rematch against Yamileth
Mercado who captured the crown on home soil via UD over ten rounds.
