Zetech Sparks head coach Harriet Fakhir is confident her side can overcome Ulinzi Starlets when the two teams clash in a Kenyan Women’s Premier League (KWPL) fixture this weekend at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The varsity side will be seeking redemption after suffering a narrow 1–0 defeat to defending champions Kenya Police Bullets on Saturday, January 24. The loss left Zetech Sparks fifth on the league table with 21 points, while Police Bullets continue to lead the standings on 31 points.

Ulinzi Starlets currently sit second with 29 points, followed by Vihiga Queens in third place with 26 points and Trinity Starlets fourth on 24 points.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Fakhir, who took over the coaching role on September 21, 2024, from Bernard Kitolo Nzioki, expressed confidence in her team’s preparation and readiness for the crucial encounter.

“My players are psyched up and ready for the match. The preparations have been intense, and the coordination among the players is excellent. We are really looking forward to securing a win,” she said.

Reflecting on the loss to Police Bullets, Fakhir admitted it was a painful setback but believes it has provided valuable lessons.

“It was painful losing to Police at home, but football is a game of chances. We were not able to convert our opportunities, and that is something I have been working on ahead of this weekend’s fixture. I believe in my players, and I urge them to give their best as we aim for maximum points to fuel our quest for the league title,” she added.

Zetech have also been handed a boost after returning to training for two injured players.

“My keeper Florida Omusanga and midfielder Litron Kimuli picked heads nocks in our last fixture against Police but I’m happy that they have fully recovered and ready for Sunday game.”

Elsewhere in the KWPL on Saturday, four-time champions Vihiga Queens will host Kisped Queens at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu, while Kenya Police Bullets travel to Mawego Polytechnic Grounds to face Gideon Starlets.

Sunday’s fixtures will see Kisumu All Starlets take on Kayole Starlets at Moi Stadium, Kisumu. Trinity Starlets will play Kibera Soccer Women at Comboni Polytechnic Grounds, while Bungoma Queens square off against Madira Soccer Assassins at Bungoma National Polytechnic.
