Boda boda operators urged to use ViuPay cashless payment
ViuPay and Directline Assurance have teamed
up in an activation exercise to encourage boda boda riders in the country to
use ViuPay cashless till numbers.
The recruitment drive, which is also in
partnership with the Boda boda Safety Association of Kenya (BAK), saw over one
thousand boda boda stage managers from Nairobi and its environs register to use
the service.
Ecstatic boda boda riders gathered Nairobi’s
Goan Grounds in Pangani on Friday, to witness the system which is set to
revolutionise and streamline the sector.
ViuPay Cashless is a payment solution system
which provides the mass market with means to make payments, top up their
e-wallet and withdraw funds from agency networks spread across the country.
“The riders have signed up for till numbers
and we are also taking them through consumer education. They are from Nairobi
and its metropolitan and that is how we were able to gather them so they can
disseminate this information and create consumer education to their passengers
and various stakeholders in the industry,” Winnie Wangoru, CEO, ViuPay said at
the launch event.
Lipa Fare na ViuPay Cashless enables boda boda
riders to get paid via ViuPay cashless till numbers registered under their name.
Customers can pay to the ViuPay cashless till
number by using money on their e-wallet or from M-Pesa.
Boda boda and crew that use ViuPay every day
or have a gross turnover of Ksh.5,000 a month, will get BinafsiBima offered by
Directline Assurance.
The insurance scheme includes a Ksh.20,000
hospital cashback for accident related hospital bills, Ksh.100,000 for permanent
disability cover, and a Ksh.100,000 last expense cover.
“We are enabling boda boda operators to
consume insurance products on their way as they do their business without
coming to the office. Once they receive payments from customers at some level
they will qualify for an insurance cover from Directline,” said Chris Katiwa,
Head of Sales, Directline Assurance.
“When you use ViuPay you will get an insurance
cover, most of our members don’t have insurance. They will also get commissions
based on their transactions on the platform. We want to ensure our members are
financially stable, they can expand our sources of income,” Kevin Mubadi, National
Executive Chair, BAK added.
Users will just have to dial *236# and follow
the simple instructions in using the system, which is gaining traction all over
the country.
